Related Organizations The Academy of Management (AoM) The Academy of Management is our division's parent organization. The Academy is a professional society which fosters the general advancement of research, learning, teaching, and practice in the management field. It membership is primarily composed of professors who conduct research and teach management in colleges, universities, or research institutes. Members also include management consultants, managers from a variety of business settings, and doctoral students who are pursuing PhD's in management. American S for Public Administration (ASPA) With a diverse membership composed of practitioners, scholars, teachers and students, ASPA is the largest and most prominent professional association in the field of public administration. Our liaison to ARNOVA is Judith Miller-Millesen, millerj8@ohio.edu Upcoming ARNOVA events ARNOVA / Aspen Institute Nonprofit Research: Doctoral Student Fellowship and Seminar Chicago – November 15-16, 2006 The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) and the Nonprofit Sector and Philanthropy Program of the Aspen Institute are pleased to announce a new fellowship opportunity for doctoral students writing a dissertation on a nonprofit topic. Fellows will have the chance to get important feedback on their research as well as funding to attend the 2006 ARNOVA Annual Conference in Chicago. DOCTORAL SEMINAR: The ARNOVA/Aspen Institute Doctoral Student Seminar will be a two-day gathering designed to provide intellectual advice, personal encouragement, and networking opportunities to Ph.D. candidates pursuing studies related to the fields of nonprofit, voluntary action, or civil society studies. The seminar will be held November 15-16 just prior to the start of the ARNOVA Conference and include a group of 5-8 fellows as well as several senior nonprofit scholars. Students will make brief presentations on their research and receive feedback from senior scholars and their fellow doctoral students. Following the seminar, students will be expected to participate in the ARNOVA Conference, which runs from November 16-18 and offers additional opportunities to learn about important issues in nonprofit research. AWARD: The fellowship award will provide each recipient with $1,000 to offset the cost of travel and lodging at the seminar and ARNOVA conference. In addition, fellows will receive free registration at the ARNOVA conference. ELIGIBILITY: In order to be considered for the fellowship, doctoral students must have approved dissertation proposals, with preference given to applicants in the early to mid-stages of their research. Fellows may come from any institution and any academic discipline. The research must be focused on a topic related to philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, which includes hospitals, universities, human service agencies, arts organizations, advocacy groups, and other tax-exempt entities. Studies may focus on philanthropic and nonprofit activities in the U.S. or other countries. APPLICATION: Students should submit a 3-4 page description of their dissertation project, with an explanation of why participation in this seminar would be particularly helpful to their development as a scholar. Applicants should also provide a letter of recommendation from their dissertation advisor which confirms that a dissertation proposal has been approved. These materials must be received at the Aspen Institute by September 29, 2006. Recipients of the fellowship award will be notified by October 13, 2006.
