Each year, the
Division honors members for award-winning research papers and for
outstanding service to the Division. The awards are presented at the HCMD
business meeting during the annual Academy of Management conference. A
brief description and previous winners of each award are listed below. |

"Best Paper Submitted to Annual
Meeting" |

"Outstanding Paper Based on a Dissertation" |

|
"Best Health Care
Management Theory to
Practice Award" This award is intended to encourage papers relevant to the practicing health care manger. At least one of the authors must be a health care management practitioner. The award is sponsored by the journal, Health Care Management Review (HCMR). The winners receive an award plaque from the Division and are invited to publish the paper in HCMR, following routine journal editing and revision. Authors of eligible papers are encouraged to identify their papers for consideration of this award during the Academy’s paper submission process. A committee headed by the Program Chair, which includes selected members of the Executive Committee, the previous year's winner of the award (first author), and one of the co-editors of Health Care Management Review, selects the winner. "Best International
Paper Award" This award is given to the paper judged to be the best international paper submitted to the HCM Division. The award is sponsored by the Emerald Group and comes with a cash award and an award plaque from the Division. Eligible papers must be self-identified and identified by the Program Chair as international or Carolyn Dexter Award nominees. The HCM Best International Paper will be submitted to AOM as the HCMD nominee for the Dexter Award. Authors of eligible papers are encouraged to identify their papers for consideration of this award during the Academy’s paper submission process. A committee headed by the Program Chair, which includes selected members of the Executive Committee and the previous year's winner of the award, selects the winner. (previous award recipients) |

"Outstanding Reviewer
Award" This award recognizes the members who go above and beyond the call of duty in their efforts reviewing papers and symposium proposals submitted to the Academy’s annual program. The Program Chair determines the selection committee, and approximately ten reviewers are chosen each year as Outstanding Reviewers, on the basis of the quality and comprehensiveness of their reviews. Winners are recognized at the Division’s annual business meeting and receive a certificate of appreciation. (previous award recipients) |

"Excellence in Teaching
Award" This award, which was established in 2005, recognizes innovative and outstanding teaching that takes place in our classrooms and provides the opportunity to encourage, recognize and reward the work of excellent, dedicated and inspiring teachers. Nominations are sought from the membership, and each nominee must meet be a University level academic staff, tenured or on full-time contract, and must have been employed in a teaching position for at least three years within the University. "Myron D. Fottler
Exceptional Service
Award" This award is considered by many to be the most distinguished award given by the HCM Division. It was established to recognize a member of the Division who has provided extraordinary service to HCM and to the profession. It is not an annual award; rather it is given only when the Division identifies a suitable nominee who meets the following requirements:
Nominations for this
award are solicited by
the Division chair-elect
in the spring. In the
years when an award is
given, the winner will
be announced at the
annual meeting and
recognized during the
Division’s business
meeting and awards
