Message from Jennifer Spencer, Chair, IM Division, Academy of Management 2013 - 2014

Dear IM Division Members,

I am delighted to serve as your Division Chair, and privileged to work with a team of leaders that has demonstrated such commitment to furthering the Division’s mission. It was terrific to see so many IM members at our annual meeting in Orlando. Many thanks to Program Chair Sea-Jin Chang and PDW Chair Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra, who put together a fantastic program that offered many thought provoking sessions. Thanks also to our Division Paper Award sponsors: Atkinson Graduate School of Management (Willamette University), Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organizations (National University of Singapore), Fundação Dom Cabral, George Washington University CIBER, Gustavson School of Business (University of Victoria), and SKOLKOVO, Moscow School of Management. We are also grateful to Booz & Co. for its continued sponsorship of the Booz & Co. Eminent Scholar Award.

The IM Division currently serves about 2,800 members, and more than half of you hail from institutions outside the United States. In September, the IM Division Membership Drive Committee administered a survey aimed at helping us understand the needs of members. The Executive Committee will be poring over these results over the winter, to make tangible changes to the division's operations. Stay tuned for more on that!

We are excited about the 2014 meeting, which will be held August 1-5 in Philadelphia. We expect that our PDWs and competitive sessions will, as always, be among the most insightful and provocative at the conference, and PDW Chair Jay Anand is eager to work with you to help you formulate innovative and interactive PDW proposals. I encourage you to contact him to discuss ideas to create a truly collaborative pre-conference program.

Thank you again for your support, insights, and innovative submissions. Organizing division activities requires an integrated, global effort and we look forward to working together for another successful year. Let’s stay connected through the IMD-L List, our division’s groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, and AOM Connect.
