Professional Overview

 

Terry R. Armstrong is a management educator and consultant primarily interested in consulting practice, applied ethics, and strategic change.  Besides being a professor he has served as the: Director of the Arrupe Program in Social Ethics for Business, Woodstock Theological Center, Georgetown University; Director of Graduate Education in Communications, Emerson College; and Director of the MBA Program at the University of West Florida. In his private practice Terry advises, coaches, and mentors CEOs, Sr. Executives, Managers and management consultants on a wide range of personal and organizational issues.   He has worked or consulted in 14 countries to over 50 organizations.


Terry is active in the Academy of Management and has chaired the Management Consulting Division and offered workshops for aspiring consult for the Division since 1995.  He has served several stints as editor of the Organization Development Journal and edited or co-authored several books.

Senior Strategy Consultant, The Avery Group, Pensacola, Fl. http:www.avery-group.net.  Advise senior executives on managing change.  In recent years he has primarily consulted with entrepreneurial firms and non-profits undergoing significant transitions and conducted searches for key management personnel.

 

6-07 to 1-08               

Interim Associate Director, Manresa Jesuit Retreat House, Bloomfield Hills, MI: Responsible for all non-religious operations including: front office, business office, MIS, housekeeping, food services, grounds, maintenance, and fundraising.  Managed a full-time staff of 25 plus100 volunteers and worked closely with the Jesuits on long-range planning for the Retreat House and assisted the Director in finding a seasoned layman to manager the center.

Senior Fellow and Director of the Arupe Program in Social Ethics for Business at the Woodstock Theological Center, Georgetown University. Created, managed, and facilitated conferences, forums, seminars and retreats on business ethics, for CEOs and Key Executive; also mentored business executives on business ethics and transition issues. Worked closely with the Executive Director to develop a strategic plan and assisted in finding key personnel for development and operations.

Operations Advisor, Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate, (CARA), Georgetown University, Washington, DC.  Mentored the Executive Director in all areas of operations and organizational change, and facilitated strategic planning.

Graduate Program Director, Department of Communications, Emerson College, Boston, MA.  Responsible for five masters programs in communications and marketing including curriculum design, recruiting, advising and accreditation of Masters in Global Marketing Communication.  Facilitated various committee and tasks groups at Emerson, with the Mass Port Authority and Bechtel on the “Big Dig Project.” Also taught graduate courses in Crises Communication, Negotiations and Group Facilitation.

Professor of Management, College of Business, University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL.  Besides traditional faculty duties served as President of the Faculty Senate and facilitated university strategic planning sessions.  During this period led numerous internal and accrediting efforts and facilitated numerous meetings for businesses and community groups throughout the region while teaching courses in Negotiations and Organization Development.

Associate Professor of Management and Co-director of Masters Program in Organization Development Leadership, University of West Florida, Pensacola, FL.  Developed and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in Management Fundamentals, Organizational Behavior, and Business Ethics.  During this period served as President of the College of Business Council, Director of the University Teaching Center chaired numerous committees and was invited to facilitate major change efforts in South Africa and Poland.
